Penny Arcade provided an art lecture 5/14/11, sharing personal stories and memories of her friend Jack Smith to introduce the film program today and showing of work by this legendary artists artist . The one that all others came to for advice. Gladstone Gallery represents the Estate of Jack Smith and this is the gallery’s first exhibition of his works. Curated by the eloquent and iconoclastic Neville Wakefield, “Thanks for Explaining Me” presents 12 recently restored films, as well as a selection of drawings, collages, black and white photographs, color photographs never previously exhibited, and two seminal slide shows. A writer and commentator on contemporary art, culture and photography, Wakefield is an author that regularly writes for Artforum, Art and Auction, Art in America, I-D, Interview, The New York Sunday Times, and British and Italian Vogue. The exhibit runs through June.

ARTIST PROFILE - AARON WHITAKER, ARTIST OF LIFE FROM AUSTIN
Aaron is a new generation artist from the Pacific Northwest who recently moved South to Austin Texas. His art is inspirational. Are there underlying meanings, of course, each artist has them and then I see fun, life and thirst for life from what he envisions and portrays through his unique stylings, colors and media. In the first of our IN THE STREET INTERVIEWS Nay'Cee Villarta talks candidly with John Mantel, award winning photographer for the New York Times. John is an accomplished photojournalist whos years with the AP honing his skills have brought forth some of the most thought provoking work in modern photography. A New York-based freelance photographer John has worked for Sipa Press, Corbis Images, Avenue Magazine, DNA Info, Associated Press, The Village Voice, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times.
John has studied theatre and photography at California Institute of the Arts, presented at Columbia University, New York University, International Center of Photography (ICP), College Media Advisers, and NY Photo-Group Salon. He also has a great sense of humor. Steven Hirsch was close by to offer a few quips and comments to his friend. :)

This event is made up of an amazing group show of artists, photographers and media paparazzi, showcasing an electrifying and diverse collection of images that represent the LGBT nightlife scene of New York City, past and present.
Hosted by drag personality and entertainment news correspondent Lady Clover Honey and recording artist and dance club performer Lovari the Bright Lights Queer City Art Show is a must see!. They combined their media connections and contacts to create the perfect event. Opening event was hosted by Michael Musto - The premiere authority on New York City's Nightlife, Arts, Celebrity dirt, alternative Downtown scene, Gay party scene and urban culture.
We were able to get a video sampling of the art and a few artists interviews in the video below.

ARTIST PROFILE - CLAYTON GALLERY and OUTLAW MUSEUM
The artist and renowned photographer Clayton Patterson, Mayor of the Lower East Side
Clayton Gallery and Outlaw Art Museum, 161 Essex Street, NYC, is home to the No Art Movement. If you're in the Lower East Side go in & see some remarkable and relevant photography and art. Over the decades Clayton Patterson has photographed and video documented the most revealing and controversial events that have shaped Manhattan's Lower East side. He has collaborated with some of the most relevant artists that have shaped this part on Manhattan.
We were there for the May Opening and have attended other events that Clayton is a part of, including showings of the Film, 'Captured' that documents Clayton's life and work. In Captured,Clayton video documents the Lower East Side police riots on the homeless in Tompkins Park in the 1980s, is persued and arrested in an attempt to have him surrender his tapes. Clayton goes on a hunger strike and draws national attention, including an appearance on Oprah. His efforts resulted in an investigation and turnover of the NYPD & sweeping procedural changes and reforms within the cities police depatment. We have photo's and video interviews with the artist and his events posted on the Profile page we have set up for Clayton.
Cyndi is a poet and Musician who's rock n Roll and poetry intertwine. She performs her poetry in NY region and with her Band the Cynz. Cyndi and her writing partner Henry Siez style have a certian musical flow with all their own unique quality.
WRITER PROFILE - EDAURDO JONES - WRITER & POET BROOKLYN
Edaurdo hails from down in Red Hook / his writings from the rich life led in the Brooklyn neighborhood echo between the concrete, red brick walk ups and shot glasses of the local watering holes. An incredible storyteller, I can't wait to find out what happens to the giraffe!
